A handwoven translation of the theme ‘restoration’ for Akaaro, Delhi, this collection of textiles blends vintage charm with contemporary style, rooted in my personal love for restored objects. IT was called 'Re- a little kept a little added'. The aesthetic is inspired by a combination of worn, faded and intact surfaces, exposed frayed materials and the layers beneath them.
Old photos, saris, Japanese Boro textiles, rugs, museum antiquities, restored architecture, furniture, and art were all part of the moodboard.
The brief was to design engineered fabrics. which meant that the garment was planned prior to weaving the fabric to ensure minimal wastage.

Textures created on a black cotton weft with gold, silver, lycra.

Natural fibres of cotton and silk in sepias and greys woven upon, with deep, bright coloured extra weft patterns but only in parts by inserting the extra weft by hand.
